DRISA Links

Railway enthusiasts are aware of numerous railway history resources hosted on the internet by museums, railway societies, universities and others. It is the objective of this site to provide quick and easy access to those sites specifically relevant to South Africa’s railway history.

This site is currently under construction while links are collected and organised for publication here. If visitors have knowledge of sites that could be included on this page, they are encouraged to submit the links to the email addresses on the homepage.

Meanwhile, visitors are encouraged to visit the Soul of a Railway (SoAR) site. It covers the entire South African railway network by successive instalments with a substantial part of the national network already completed. The best photographs are collected and presented with detailed captions and specially prepared maps. The main contributors are Charlie Lewis, Les Pivnic, Bruno Martin and Piet Nel. SoAR makes use of extensive collections of private photographers who had been photographing trains in South Africa over several decades. Soul of a Railway is hosted here:
